How does a hydrogen compressor compress hydrogen?

Publish Time: 2019-08-16     Origin: Site

Unlike the requirements of oxygen compressors and nitrogen compressors, hydrogen is usually produced at relatively low pressures and must be compressed prior to shipment, so it is generally compressed using a hydrogen compressor for subsequent work.

Main:

Hydrogen compressor compression process

Prepare a hydrogen source and make sure it is working properly and efficiently to provide enough gas to transfer to the hydrogen compressor. You can get hydrogen in a simple way, such as passing electricity through water, reacting acid with zinc, or extracting it from fossil fuels. Make sure there are no leaks during the hydrogen production process to prevent any accidents. You can use a hydrogen monitoring device purchased from a secure equipment store to detect hydrogen leaks.

Use a tapped hose to connect the hydrogen source to the diaphragm compressor inlet and turn off the faucet to prevent gas flow. An external pump is used to push the gas into the compressor because the compressor itself draws gas from the inlet into its hydraulic pump. Make sure the connection between the hydrogen source and the hydrogen compressor is sealed.

Prepare the gas tank and check for cracks. Make sure the valve is not damaged again to prevent any accidents. Connect the compressor to the tank with a hose with a pressure gauge. The pressure gauge is used to measure the pressure inside the tank so you know when you should stop pumping the gas into the tank. It is wise to store hydrogen at 800 atmospheres.

Turn the faucet from the hydrogen source and let the gas flow into the compressor inlet. The power is on the diaphragm compressor and then the movement of the gauge is observed. When the reading is 800 bar, the compressor is turned off. Note: The transfer of compressed gas from the tank to the car engine results in a slight loss of compression energy.

Device selection

Hydrogen compressors are available in membrane, reciprocating piston, rotary, screw, and turbine types. Appropriate types are selected based on flow, suction and exhaust pressure. The piston compressor has a large flow rate, and the single-stage compression ratio is generally 3:1 to 4:1; the membrane compressor dissipates heat quickly, and the compression process is close to the isothermal process, which can have a higher compression ratio of up to 20:1, but Due to the small flow rate, it is mainly used in applications where the hydrogen pressure is high but the flow rate is not large.

Generally, compressors with a pressure below 30MP are usually piston type. Experience has proved that they are highly reliable and can be composed of a single compressor. When the pressure is above 30MP and the volumetric flow rate is small, a membrane compressor can be selected. The advantage of the membrane type is that the seal is reliable at high pressure: because the sealing structure of the air chamber is a diaphragm clamped between the cylinder head and the cylinder block, the main bolt is fastened into a static seal form, and the gas can be prevented from leaking, and The membrane cavity is closed and does not come into contact with any oil droplets, oil mist and other impurities, which ensures that the incoming gas is free from external pollution when compressing the gas. This shows a special advantage in the case of high purity media. The structure of the hydrogen compressor includes basic components (such as crankcase, crankshaft, connecting rod, etc.), cylinder components, plunger components, cooler components, safety protection control systems, and other accessory components.

Most of the compressors currently used for gas hydrogen compression are positive displacement compressors or centrifugal compressors. The positive displacement compressor may be a reciprocating compressor or a rotary compressor. But they are all the same function, you can choose the model according to your needs.
